Hiking with The Huskies
They
carry the heavy stuff - so you can enjoy the
trek
One of the best hiking ideas to come our way for a long time! Great fun, good hiking and what’s more enthusiastic husky pack dogs carry the heavy stuff giving you a lighter load. Our most successful hiking trip is guided by the nicest people - the Cathers family. Legends in the dog sledding business, this family wrote the book on traveling with huskies! Father and daughter have competed numerous times in the Yukon Quest, the 1600 km sled dog event between Whitehorse and Fairbanks. Their lakeside homestead is cozy and comfortable, making the perfect base camp for visitors. Outgoing and friendly, the Cather’s family have all the outdoor knowledge to make this a very special holiday. By the way, as the husky pack dogs help carry the expedition food don’t let them get too far out of sight!
Hiking with the Huskies takes you
on a route through alpine meadows and spruce
forests of the Lake Laberge eastern shores. Your
wilderness guide can introduce you to the
Yukon’s fascinating natural world - where its
daylight virtually all summer long. New hiking
destinations are always interesting, these
backcountry trails are easy walking with no
steep climbs or difficult sections. This is
family friendly country! Children over 12 years
are very welcome. Imagine the thrill for kids to
spend a week with a team of ‘people loving’
huskies, trekking through the Yukon’s
southern wilderness. The dogs are never
harnessed, enjoy the treks and make real trail
companions. Your participation in the summer
treks keeps them fit and healthy for their
winter sled pulling activities.
